Musik in Preußen preußische Musik?

Unter dem Titel »Musik in Preußen preußische Musik?« setzen sich in dem vorliegenden Band Vertreter verschiedenster Fachrichtungen Historiker, Musikforscher, Germanisten und Theaterwissenschaftler mit ausgewählten Aspekten des musikalischen Schaffens in Brandenburg-Preußen vom späten 17. bis zum frühen 20. Jahrhundert auseinander. Dabei tritt der Funktionswandel der Musik für die monarchische Repräsentation und für das Selbstverständnis des jeweils regierenden Herrschers deutlich zutage.

Representatives of various disciplines historians, musicologists, German philologists and scholars of theatre art explore select aspects of music production in Brandenburg-Prussia under the title of »Music in Prussia Prussian Music?«. Here the question arises whether a specific Prussian style existed within contemporary music or if the musical culture that was developed in Prussia from the 17th to the early 20th century may be classed within the respective German or international European context without distinction. The nine contributions presented here encompass the time frame of Frederick III/I's first few years in power until the era of William II. The change of music's function for the representation of the monarchy and for the governing ruler's self-perception becomes readily apparent. Each of the nine bearers of Prussian regality had a special relationship with music, whereby Frederick William I and Frederick the Great represented two starkly opposed positions.

Frank-Lothar Kroll studierte Geschichte, Kunstgeschichte, Germanistik, Philosophie und Religionswissenschaften in Bonn und Köln. 1987 Promotion; 1992 Präsident der Werner Bergengruen-Gesellschaft e.V.; 1995 Habilitation in Erlangen; 1996 Louis Ferdinand Preis des Preußeninstituts; Professurvertretungen an den Universitäten Erlangen und Dresden; 2000 Professurvertretung und spätere Berufung auf die Professur für Neuere und Neueste Geschichte / Europäische Geschichte des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts an der TU Chemnitz. Seit 2006 Vorsitzender der Preußischen Historischen Kommission und seit 2011 1. Vorsitzender der Prinz-Albert-Gesellschaft e.V.; u.a.
