Ingvar Hellsing Lundqvist, aufgewachsen in Göteborg, studierte Literatur und Philosophie und arbeitete als Lehrer. Er publizierte zahlreiche Erzählungen, »Wie man ein Genie tötet« ist sein Romandebüt. Seit der Uraufführung von Hans Rotts erster Symphonie 1989 (hundert Jahre nach dessen Tod) beschäftigt er sich mit dem österreichischen Komponisten.
