Liebe und Ethik

Die Rolle der Liebe für die normative Ethik.

Während die Liebe in der antiken und mittelalterlichen Philosophie noch von zentraler Bedeutung für die Begründung von Moral ist, gerät sie spätestens seit der Neuzeit zugunsten der Vernunft weitgehend ins philosophisch-ethische Abseits. Die Autorin untersucht, welche Rolle und Bedeutung die Liebe bei der Fundierung der normativen Ethik spielt. Dabei setzt sie sich kritisch mit den Positionen von Max Scheler und Robert Spaemann auseinander, die im 20. Jahrhundert moderne Formen der personalen Liebes- bzw. Wohlwollensethik entwickeln. Sie kommt zu dem Schluss, dass es eine von der Vernunft reflektierbare und doch jeder Reflexion zuvorkommende, ursprüngliche und alogische Bewegung der Liebe gibt. Diese geht mit einer positiven Sinnerschließung von Wirklichkeit einher und vermag dem Denken und Wollen einen letzten Horizont zu geben, von dem aus jede ernsthafte ethische statt bloß strategische Reflexion ihren Ausgang nehmen muss.

Dr. phil. Ute Kruse-Ebeling studierte Diplom-Journalistik, Philosophie und Biologie in Dortmund und Philosophie (M.A.) in Montreal. Sie arbeitet als Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Institut für Philosophie der Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Dr. phil. Ute Kruse-Ebeling completed a diploma in journalism, philosophy and biology at Dortmund and an MA in philosophy at Montreal. She is research assistant at the Institute of Philosophy of the Ruhr University at Bochum.

While in ancient and medieaval philosophy love was of central importance for the justification of morality, since the early modern period it has largely been pushed into the philosophical-ethical sidelines by Reason. The author examines the role and significance of love in the foundation of normative ethics. To this end she critically discusses the positions of Max Scheler and Robert Spaemann, who developed modern ethics of personal love and affection in the 20th century. She comes to the conclusion that there does exist a primal, alogical form of love, reflected by reason and yet anticipating all reflection. It is accompanied by a positive opening up of the sense of reality, and is able to give thought and volition an ultimate horizon which must be the point of departure for any serious ethical - and not mere strategic - reflection.
