The results of a well-founded ecumenical study stemming from the ÖAK (Ecumenical Study Group of Protestant and Catholic Theologists).

Das Jahr 2017 ist für die christliche Ökumene von besonderer Bedeutung: 500 Jahre nach der symbolisch als Beginn der Reformation betrachteten Veröffentlichung von Martin Luthers Ablassthesen bereiten sich die Kirchen gemeinsam auf dieses Datum vor. Der Ökumenische Arbeitskreis evangelischer und katholischer Theologen legt einen Beitrag zu dem anhaltenden Ringen um das rechte Verständnis der Reformation vor, bei dem die theologische Bedeutung dieses Ereignis im Vordergrund steht. Im ökumenischen Geist geschieht eine historische Rekonstruktion der komplexen Vorgänge im 16. Jahrhundert. Die Reformation wird zum Anlass, gemeinsam aus systematisch-theologischer Sicht das Wesen der einen Kirche zu bestimmen. Die gegenwärtig gegebenen ökumenischen Herausforderungen werden kritisch und konstruktiv bedacht. Im Konzert der Meinungen hat dieser Beitrag zur Debatte auch deshalb großes Gewicht, weil er auf einer über Jahrzehnte hinweg fundierten ökumenischen Studienarbeit des Ökumenischen Arbeitskreises basiert. Durch die Präsentation des Textes auch in englischer Sprache soll eine internationale Rezeption erleichtert werden.
