Transregionale Verflechtungen im östlichen Europa und im Vorderen Orient

Die Geschichte der großen Reiche im östlichen Europa und im Vorderen Orient war sowohl von konfliktträchtiger Konkurrenz als auch von übergreifendem Austausch geprägt, die intensive Verzahnungen hervorbrachten. Vom 16. bis zum Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts lassen sich zwischen Polen-Litauen, dem Zarenreich, dem Osmanischen Reich und Persien eine Vielzahl gesellschaftlicher und kultureller Verflechtungen nachzeichnen. Getragen von verschiedenen Gruppen und Individuen wie Kaufleuten, Gelehrten, Diplomaten, Migranten, Militärs oder Sklaven kam es zu einem regen Austausch von Menschen, Waren und Ideen. Daraus erwuchsen zu verschiedenen Zeiten und in verschiedenen sozialen Räumen »transosmanische« Interaktionszusammenhänge. Der vorliegende Band gibt neben knappen methodischen Skizzen einen Forschungsüberblick über solche transregionalen Verflechtungen und »Flüsse«, die bisher noch nicht in systematischer Form untersucht worden sind. The history of the great empires in Eastern Europe and in the Near and Middle East was not only marked by conflicts and competition but also by a dense exchange leading to intensive interconnections. From the 16th until the beginning of the 20th century a large number of social and cultural ties between Poland-Lithuania, the Russian Empire, Ottoman Empire and Persia can be found. Supported by several groups and individuals such as merchants, scholars, diplomates, migrants, militaries or slaves a strong exchange of humans, products and ideas were realised. Therefore, transottoman interactive relationships evolved during different time periods and different social spaces. The present volume presents not only a methodical research overview but also transregional ties, which have not been the subject of a systematic historical study so far.

Thomas M. Bohn ist Professor für Geschichte Osteuropas an der Universität Gießen. Stephan Conermann, PhD, is the Speaker of the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies, and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Bonn. His research interests include slaveries, narrative strategies in historiographic texts, transition periods, reconciliation processes, global history, and rule and power. His work is focused on the Mamluk and Delhi Sultanates, the Mughal and Ottoman Empires, and the Crossroads Area "Transottomanica." Prof. Dr. Albrecht Fuess lehrt seit 2010 Islamwissenschaft am Centrum für Nah- und Mittelost-Studien der Universität Marburg. Markus Koller is a professor for the history of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey at the Ruhr-University Bochum.
