Multiple Campus

What will the urban campus of the future look like? Academia is undergoing massive change as it faces increasingly complex challengesand with it, cities are changing, too. Paolo Fusi describes the "multiple campus" as a place of knowledge transfer that enables new models for creatively and innovatively researching, working, and living in the city. Focusing first on the Universität Hamburg, he then examines the development of urban campuses worldwide, evaluating architectural and conceptual tendencies. Turning to exemplary projects that have developed over time, been recently realized, or are in the planning stages, in New York, Chicago, Lausanne, London, Trondheim, and Copenhagen, he examines instruments for designing architectural and spatial types. These future scenarios complement his morphological analysis of the Hamburg city campus and his consideration of its historical emergence.
