The newly completed campus with the university building and accommodation for students is a further milestone in the revitalisation of Neumarkt's historic city centre, which the architects Berschneider + Berschneider have been instrumental in transforming since the 1980s. The architecture of the university building a branch of Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm, the university of applied sciences in Nuremberg follows a clear hierarchical order. Facing the square Residenzplatz, the almost barn-like structure, the so-called Lernstadl, appears with a white clinker brick slip facade and an unusually large, steep red-tiled roof. Due to the fully glazed joint with a lift in the south and a steel staircase in the north, the building is perceived as a solitaire clearly separated from its neighbour, a monolithic structure fully enveloped in sandstone. Even though it looks lower than the Lernstadl, the lecture hall and seminar building also incorporates three storeys. The uppermost level, the second floor, is built into the eaves of the mansard and roof windows provide plenty of daylight. The abstract prism-shaped structure is not only derived from the plot's shape but is the result of an urban analysis, which references the visual links and lines of the narrow streets in the historic city centre and densifies them into the sculptured shape. In addition to the university building, Berschneider + Berschneider have developed a timber structure on the neighbouring plot with nine flat-share apartments for a total of 23 students. In keeping with the historic predecessor buildings, the space has been divided among a row of four gable-topped houses. A communal staircase connects all the apartments beyond the pastel-coloured plaster of the facades.
