This volume contains 27 current research articles related to the geography of family names in Europe, providing for the first time an overview of international research in this field. The spectrum includes studies (Scandinavia), studies of specific countries (e.g. Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, England, Poland, Spain, Portugal), and phenomena in small geographic areas (e.g. Alemannic, West Central German). Numerous distribution maps document the areal relationships.
